Official UFC narrator on broadcasts in the United States, Jon Anik showed in practice that a promise is a debt. He, who stated that he would get a tattoo if Nate diaz win Conor McGregor at UFC 196, he lived up to his words and showed off the new mark on his skin.
In the podcast he presents alongside the former fighter Kenny Florian, Anik stated that he believed that McGregor was the clear favorite for the fight. “I'm going to say what the people want to hear: I'm going to tattoo '209' [area code for the city of Diaz] on my arm if Nate diaz win Conor McGregor. I bet on Conor in the first round, by knockout or technical knockout,” he said at the time.
The statements even left Diaz uncomfortable, which caused Anik to issue a formal apology. It was already too late: with Diaz's victory via submission in the second round, many called on Anik to fulfill his promise.
The final result was shown by Anik himself on his Instagram account. The narrator, however, was not in charge of the UFC 196 broadcast, as he normally narrates the “Fight Night” class events, which are broadcast on cable television in the United States. The numbered attractions, on pay-per-view, are led by Mike Goldberg.
