Belfort even announced his retirement from fighting in May last year, after his defeat to his compatriot Lyoto Machida, at UFC 224. The decision, however, was short-lived. Months later, Vitor announced that he would return to fight in 2019. In February, the 'Fenômeno' signed a contract with One FC.

The clash between Vitor and Vera, however, may not be the Brazilian's official return to fighting. Belfort recently admitted his desire to hold a duel against former world boxing champion Roy Jones Jr., under rules established between the athletes. The challenge to the boxing legend was launched and promptly accepted by 50-year-old Jones. The date, however, has not yet been defined.

After the 'superfight', Belfort would be available to try to dethrone Brandon for the organization's heavyweight title. Vera won the belt in December 2015, when he beat Paul Cheng by knockout in the first round. Since then, she has defended her reign on three occasions. The last one, in November 2018.

Brandon Vera is currently 41 years old and was among the UFC athletes between 2005 and 2013. Vera left the company without winning any belt.

In total, Vitor has a record of 41 fights, 26 wins, 14 losses and one bout without result (the fighter faced Kelvin Gastelum, however, the North American was caught in the anti-doping test).

Vera has a record of 24 fights, 16 wins, seven losses and one fight without result (Brandon faced Thiago Silva for UFC 125, the Brazilian, however, was caught doing anti-doping).
