The former heavyweight title challenger (up to 120kg.), Francis Ngannou, admitted to believing that a victory over junior gypsy can qualify him to compete for the belt in his category. The statement was made at the conference held by the UFC last week, in Atlanta (USA). Although he believes he is already worthy of the title fight, Ngannou was happy to have Cigano as his next opponent.

“After the last fight, I thought I would get the title back, but it didn't happen, I don't know why,” commented Ngannou. “I'm very happy to have the fight against Junior. He doesn't have the belt, but we all know he's a champion. We have been noticing him since he came back, he looks like a champion”, praised the Cameroonian.
Francis believes that his brutal knockout over the former division champion, Cain Velazquez, would place him as the number one challenger to face the current title holder, Daniel Cormier. However, 'DC' has publicly demonstrated his willingness to face the WWE star and former division champion, Brock Lesnar. It seems that the UFC will try to hold this fight to satisfy Daniel's desire.
The Cameroonian, then, believes that after the possible 'superfight' between 'DC' and Lesnar takes place, he will finally be able to fight for the belt again.
Ngannou, 32, was a heavyweight title challenger in 2018, when he was defeated by Stipe Miocic in a unanimous decision by the judges. After the defeat, Francis played three more times for the organization, recording two wins and one loss.
The duel between the Cameroonian and junior gypsy takes place on July 7th, in Las Vegas.
