The heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, came to the defense of the UFC by speaking out in favor of the expulsion of the Russian athlete, Ruslan Magomedov, on his Twitter account. Cormier is Ruslan's training partner, but even so, he supported Ultimate's decision regarding the athlete's punishment.

“This is crazy. No one needs to do illegal things. Training partner or not, it's not cool. What did he come here to do, then?”, published Daniel.
It's crazy! No one needs to be doing illegal shit. Teammate or not. It's not cool. What did he pop for? https://t.co/NUHqL56HiE

Cormier can speak authoritatively about anti-doping policies. In July 2017, after his long-awaited rematch against the current light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, for whom he had lost on points in 2015, Daniel had suffered a cruel knockout, being defeated by his rival. However, after the fight, Jones tested positive in a test carried out by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency), losing the belt and being suspended from fights. The result of the fight was then changed to 'no result'.
Since then, 'DC' has remained critical of any possibility of cheating between the fighters.
Russo's case is even more serious than that of 'Bones'. The athlete had been caught in an exam in 2016, and was suspended for two years. Ready to return to fighting, in 2018, he was again accused of ingesting prohibited substances. His punishment was then renewed. In February of this year, Ruslan refused to take an exam proposed by the commission, however, he refused. The UFC board, therefore, decided to ban the fighter once and for all.
Ruslan, since 2014, had fought three times for the UFC and was not defeated. In total, he has a record of 15 fights and just one mishap.
This is the first time that an athlete has been fired from the company after violating an exam of this type.
