Cain Velazquez is close to realizing a big dream: participating in a wrestling event. The former heavyweight champion will be one of the guests at Triplemania XXVII, which will take place on August 3 in Mexico City. The announcement took place on Tuesday afternoon (26).

The fighter was born in the United States, but has always made a point of mentioning his ancestry with the Latin American country. The event is equivalent to the so-called lucha libre or the old telecatch.

The first Triplemania took place in April 1993 and, since then, it has taken place annually, with a large number of admirers all over the world. This year's event, however, will feature the participation of Cain, who was very excited about the invitation.

“Very excited to be able to participate in Triplemania XXVII and be with all the Mexicans who have always supported me. Thank you very much for being part of Triplemania XVII and being with the fans who have always been with me”, said the former champion on a social network.

Cain is not the first martial artist to venture into the world of wrestling. Other fighters have already participated in events of the same style, such as the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, who in 1976 had an exhibition fight with the Japanese Antônio Inoki, a big name in world wrestling. On that occasion, the athletes faced each other within their respective disciplines.

Former boxing champions, Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweater also took to the ring for special appearances in similar events. The most well-known current case of an MMA fighter is that of Ronda Rousey, who officially retired from the Octagon and dove headfirst into the world of wrestling, and is now one of the main representatives of the area.

Velasquez hasn't fought since February 2019, when he was defeated by the Cameroonian Francis Ngannou in a flash fight that marked his return to the UFC after more than two years away due to injuries. Cain has 17 fights in his record, with 14 wins and three losses.
