In the main fight of the night, two stand-up specialists will face each other. The karateka Stephen Thompson, number three in the welterweight rankings, faces the former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, which moves up a category for the first time.
Brazil will be represented on the card by three athletes. In the preliminary program, Jennifer maia tries her first UFC victory against the Canadian Alexis Davis. On the main card, the 100% Tupiniquim duel promises to heat up the flyweight division. The Potiguar Jussier formiga measures forces against Pará Deiveson Figueiredo.
Thompson vs. Pettis
The main fight of UFC Nashville pits two stand-up specialists face to face. Owner of high-level karate, Stephen Thompson has a record of 14 wins, three losses and one draw. However, he climbs into the octagon in search of recovery.
Number three in the welterweight rankings, he comes from a setback in his last fight, against Darren till, in May 2018. Now, if he wants to have the chance to compete again for the category belt, he needs to defeat Anthony Pettis.
Nicknamed 'Showtime', due to the plasticity of his moves, Anthony Pettis arrive at UFC Nashville as an unknown. The fighter, who is a former lightweight champion, has not found his footing in his career since losing his reign to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 185, March 2015.
Since then, he has moved down the featherweight division, returned to the lightweight division, but has failed to score two wins in a row. After losing his last fight, against Tony Ferguson at UFC 229 in October, Pettis takes a risk by moving up the welterweight division in search of redemption.
Brazil x Brazil
The Brazilians Jussier formiga, first placed in the ranking, and Deiveson Figueiredo, fourth in the rankings, want to show that the men's flyweight division can still provide great fights.
The Brazilians want to forget the organization's threat to close the category and seek victory for the chance to challenge the champion Henry Cejudo.
With a record of 22 wins and five losses, Formiga reaches the UFC Nashville with three victories in a row and a victory should guarantee the chance to have a rematch against the champion – he lost to Henry Cejudo in a tight split decision in 2015.
Deiveson, on the other hand, has a perfect record in MMA. The 'God of War', as he is known, has 15 wins in 15 fights as a professional. Current number four in the ranking, if the leader of the ranking wins, the man from Pará should take the elevator and be very close to the fight against Cejudo.
Jennifer Maia in search of recovery
In addition to the 100% Brazilian fight on the card, the country will be represented by Jennifer maia. The Brazilian will have her fourth fight on the preliminary card against Alexis Davis.
After debuting in the organization with a defeat to Liz Carmouche, in July 2018, the fighter from Paraná is trying for her first victory in the organization. She has a record of 15 wins, five losses and one draw.
On the other hand, Davis has a record of 19 wins and eight losses. The Canadian is also looking to recover as she lost her last fight against Katlyn chookagian.
