Lewis' trainer says he asked the fighter to withdraw from the duel with Cigano

Derrick Lewis was knocked out by Junior Gypsy at 1m58s of the second round of UFC Wichita, last Saturday (09). However, the American struggled with torn meniscus, anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament. His coach, Bob Perez asked the fighter to withdraw from the duel, but he refused the advice.

Since his debut in Ultimate in April 2014, Derrick has had 17 fights, with 12 wins and five losses. Thus, the North American is among the most active fighters on the franchise's roster. Analyzing the numbers, Perez said it's time for the fighter to slow down.

“I would like him to rest, to heal his mind, his body, and improve everything”, said Bob.

in the week of UFC Wichita, Lewis revealed that he accepted the confrontation with the Brazilian after agreeing a new contract with the UFC. According to Derrick, he would be better paid for his performances. This fact can justify the fighter's remaining in the fight even without being physically fit.
