The phase is not going well for Muhammad Lawal. The former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, who recently fought a serious infection contracted after knee surgery, had his sentence for a doping case announced this Tuesday.
In January, Lawal beat Lorenz Larkin by technical knockout in the second round. Days after the fight, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) announced that the drug test for King mo tested positive for the anabolic steroid drostanolone.
The athletic commission voted to suspend the AKA athlete for nine months. The punishment will be retroactive to the date of the fight, meaning the nine months will start from January 7th. Lawal was also fined $39, taken from his purse. To complete the punishment, the NSAC changed the outcome of the fight against Larkin to I didn't answer.
After losing the Strikeforce belt to Rafael Feijão, King mo had recovered with a victory over Roger gracie before facing Larkin. The organization even considered a rematch between Lawal and Feijão for the category belt, vacant since the return of Dan Henderson for the UFC.
