Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra supports the battle to free MMA in the state of New York. The sport has been banned in the state for 11 years and the black belt is on the front line, along with a team of UFC lawyers in the battle with the state where he lives, in addition to Serra, another UFC fighter, light heavyweight Matt Hammill accompanies the delegation.
“Our position is that they banned a sport that doesn’t really exist anymore. It's difficult to make a prediction, but I can tell you that we didn't receive any negative feedback in the meetings we had. And I can tell you that it is part of the educational process – we have to educate people about sport.”
