Paulo borrachinha was scheduled to face Yoel romero in the main fight of UFC Ft. Lauderdale, April 27th. However, Ultimate changed its plans, removed the fighter from the card and called Ronaldo Jacare for the attraction. As soon as the Minas Gerais native was left without an opponent, fellow Brazilian Antonio Shoe Face challenged his compatriot to a confrontation.

Shoe Face explained that all the fighters at the top of the middleweight rankings have duels scheduled or are injured. Thus, only the two would be available to fight at the moment.
“I would love to fight him. We are Brazilians. We have some problems we need to resolve. We were in the same house. I'm the champion of The Ultimate Fighter Brasil. He lost at home and now he's like: 'Ah, I'm the man of the moment'. That's not what happened […] I would like to do this for the UFC because it seems like everyone in the rankings has a fight or got hurt. I would be the only one he could fight and for me it would be great”, he explained. Shoe Face in an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie.
The rivalry between Shoe Face and Borrachinha started during the recording of The Ultimate Fighter Brasil 3. Despite the fighters belonging to the Wanderlei Silva, Antonio revealed that the Minas Gerais native did not respect the rules of Brazilian gyms and had rejected his skills in grappling. At the end of the reality show, the man from Paraíba was crowned winner in the heavyweight category and won a contract with the organization.
Antônio Carlos is coming off a submission victory over Tim Boetsch in April 2018 in Gladale. He has a record of 13 fights, with 10 victories, two defeats and one unsuccessful fight.
