Seven months pregnant, Mackenzie dern Can't wait to get back to the Octagon. With the birth of the baby scheduled for May, the UFC muse revealed that she intends to return to competitions in 2019.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to make history. I want to fight this year, I hope. And that is giving me motivation now”, said Mackenzie, in an interview with Ariel Helwani's MMA Show.
Winner of two fights in the UFC, the black belt wants her son to watch her fights and follow in her footsteps in martial arts. Just as she was inspired to fight by her father, Brazilian Wellington 'Megaton'.
“I always knew I wanted to be a mother and not retire. […] I want my son to watch my fights. I think it's because I grew up watching my dad compete and felt inspired by him. I always knew I wanted this for myself too,” said Dern.
Even though she is anxious about returning to the cage, Mackenzie explained that she will wait to see how she feels after giving birth. “I really don’t know what to expect. I'm really looking forward to getting back in the cage, fighting for my baby and my family. I’m doing this for more than just me and that’s awesome”, concluded the strawweight.
Dern switched from jiu-jitsu to MMA in 2016 and remains undefeated after seven fights. The fighter has already had two fights in Ultimate. Her debut was in March 2018 when she won Ashley yoder at UFC 222. In her last commitment, she submitted Amanda Cooper in the first round of UFC 224 in May last year.
