Matt hugs received a restraining order following reports of domestic violence and abusive behavior towards his wife, Audra Hughes. The UFC hall of famer will have to stay 500 feet (152,4m) away from his wife. The information was given first-hand by the North American website TMZ Sports.

According to legal documents released by the website, Audra stated that in September or October 2017, Matt had attacked her in the shower at home because she had refused to give Matt the keys to the truck. Because he could not drive due to the brain injury he suffered in an accident in which his truck was hit by a train. His wife's denial ended up taking the ex-mourner seriously.
Matt allegedly strangled Audra and asked for the code to the safe where her gun was. The wife refused again and the UFC hall of famer strangled her again and slammed her head against the shower wall, shouting, 'That's strangulation.'
New cases occurred in 2018: On July 21, Matt allegedly told his wife: 'I'm going to shoot you', after Audra took his cell phone arguing that he was 'communicating with several women'. In December, the UFC hall of famer allegedly hit Audra's wife and stepfather in front of their children after being accused of texting other women.
The restraining order was requested on December 13, the day after the last attack. The judge accepted the request and ordered Hughes to stay at least 152,4m away from his wife and children.
