“There was a complete rupture of the ligament, so he had surgery to reconstruct it. He tried to train for as long as he could with conservative treatments, to see if he could be present on a card in May, due to his desire to fight in Curitiba, where the card should have been, but unfortunately he couldn't train, he couldn't close his hand properly and punch. It was unviable and this surgery was performed”, said Shogun in an interview with the Combate channel website.

Guys, today I underwent surgery to reconstruct the ligament in my right thumb. I suffered this injury in the first round of my last fight in Australia, and I tried my best to avoid surgery so that I could fight in the UFC in May, which would be in Curitiba. This meant a lot to me, and scheduling the operation would mean giving up that possibility. I went to my limit, we ran out of attempts, but it was impossible to train properly and there was no alternative but to operate. The surgery was a success! I want to thank Dr. Sérgio Auto and his entire team. Thank you very much! I'll be back soon guys! Today I had surgery to repair my right thumb ligament, which I injured in the first round of my last fight in Australia. I tried my hardest to avoid the surgery so I could keep my dream of fighting in Curitiba in May alive, as this meant a lot to me and scheduling surgery would make it impossible. Unfortunately it was impossible to train properly, and I had no alternative other than having surgery. Surgery was a success! I want to thank Doctor Sergio Auto and all is team. I'll be back soon!
