Mauritius Shogun knocked out Tyson Peter at 43 seconds into the third round of the UFC Adelaide co-main event in December last year. During the first round, the Brazilian ended up tearing the ligament in the thumb of his right hand. On Saturday (23), the veteran underwent surgery to repair the injury and is therefore expected to be away from the Octagon for an indefinite period of time.
“There was a complete rupture of the ligament, so he had surgery to reconstruct it. He tried to train for as long as he could with conservative treatments, to see if he could be present on a card in May, due to his desire to fight in Curitiba, where the card should have been, but unfortunately he couldn't train, he couldn't close his hand properly and punch. It was unviable and this surgery was performed”, said Shogun in an interview with the Combate channel website.
