Third place in the middleweight rankings, Ronaldo Jacare asked for a rematch with Gastelum and a fight for the category's interim belt in the UFC 237 in Curitiba. The first fight took place in May 2018 at UFC 224 and the American won by split decision from the judges.
“I asked for this fight, because the Kelvin Gastelum He beat me in a split decision and he had the chance to fight for the (middleweight) belt. It was completed by Chris Weidman and knock out Weidman. In addition to it being a tight victory, I'm coming off a knockout over an opponent who already submitted Gastelum. I’m not asking for anything absurd, it’s something I deserve”, said Jacaré in an interview with Tatame magazine’s website.
The Brazilian revealed that he wasn't feeling well during the first fight with Gastelum, but assured that he won't miss a rematch.
“Last time, it was visible that I was not well, I had a bad weight loss. I don't miss rematches either. If you put this fight in five rounds it will be a 'fight'. I guarantee that!” concluded Ronaldo.
Jacaré is coming off a knockout victory over Chris Weidman at UFC 230 in November last year. The Brazilian has 32 fights in his career, with 26 triumphs and six setbacks.
