Israel Adesanya says 'it would be an honor' to retire Anderson Silva

With just a few hours to go before the fight at UFC 234, the young Nigerian warned that despite the Brazilian being his idol, it would be an 'honor' to retire him

Israel adesanya will face Anderson Silva in the co-main event of UFC 234, in Melbourne (AUS), this Saturday (09). On the eve of the fight, the young fighter remains confident of victory in the most important fight of his career. In an interview with the North American website MMA Fighting, the Nigerian assured that 'it would be an honor' to retire the Brazilian.

“I'm ready and he's the guy I wanted to face. It would be an honor to retire him from the sport,” Adesanya said.

Despite this opinion, ‘The Last Stylebender’ believes that it is the opponent who can inspire Anderson to show his best content inside the octagon. He also assured that he is the fighter that ‘Spider’ has been looking for throughout his career.

“I’m the guy who brings him what he wants. In his last fights he was bored. He usually jokes and provokes his opponents like he did with (Vitor) Belfort, when he put on the mask, he provoked (Chris) Weidman too, but with me he was cold, just like me, everything was calm. I looked at him, and he had glass eyes”, said ‘The Last Stylebender’.

Facing Anderson at UFC 234, Adesanya will try to preserve his 15-fight unbeaten record in professional MMA. The Nigerian had four fights in Ultimate and due to his good performances he was promoted to sixth place in the middleweight rankings.

In addition to the meeting between Anderson and Adesanya, UFC 234 will feature a middleweight title fight between Robert whittaker e Kelvin Gastelum. The event will also be attended by three more Brazilians: Rani Yaya, Raulian paiva and Marcos Rosa.
