Joanna Jedrzejczyk moved up to women's flyweight to face Valentina Shevchenko for the vacant division title at UFC 231, in December of last year. After five rounds of a disputed fight, 'Bullet' won the duel by unanimous decision and won the category belt. In an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie, the Polish athlete announced her return to the strawweight category in 2019.

“I'm going down to strawweight. I need some time to cool my body, refresh my mind and feel the fire again. People define me as an athlete after my wins or losses, but I have great camps. I have been working hard over the last few years and I will come back stronger”, assured Jedrzejczyk.
With her return to strawweight, Joanna hopes to regain the belt she won at UFC 217 in November 2017 by winning Carla esparza by technical knockout. The Polish woman lost her title when she was knocked out by Rose namajunas. Jedrzejczyk had a rematch with the American at UFC 223 in April last year, but was defeated by unanimous decision.
Despite the announcement of her return, the former champion will have to wait for a title fight. Ultimate has scaled Jessica Stacker to be the next challenger for the category belt against the champion, Rose namajunas. Joanna assured that she will be in Brazil to watch the clash between the strawweights.
“I was getting mad at Rose (Namajunas). Of course she is the champion, but she is a very busy champion. You can't wait, you have to defend your belt at least once a year, that's why I was very happy when I heard about the fight (against Bate-Estaca). I will definitely be in Brazil to follow this dispute live”, said the Polish woman.
Jedrzejczyk stated that she may have a fight first, but she wants to fight for the strawweight belt next. “I don't know who my next opponent will be, but I want to fight for the belt. I can fight first, but I want the title”, concluded the fighter.
