Israel adesanya will make the main fight of his career in professional MMA in the co-main event of UFC 234, this Saturday (9), in Melbourne (AUS). The Nigerian will face his idol Anderson Silva for a chance to fight for the middleweight belt. In the same event, the champion of the up to 84 kg category, Robert whittaker will put the title in dispute against Kelvin Gastelum. Star of the franchise, 'The Stylebender' guaranteed that without his presence on the card, tickets would not have sold out.
“It is my presence on this card with Anderson that made the event sell out in 15 minutes”, declared Adesanya on the website of the American broadcaster 'ESPN'. “The event would not have sold out as it did without me and Anderson. So Whittaker should be grateful. He takes the pay-per-view points, wins the honors and everything. And yes, good for him, he knows what's going on. Even he knows. So, he can take advantage of this for the next ten years”, said Israel in an interview with the website of the North American channel ESPN.
Adesanya's provocations to the current champion and owner of the house, Whittaker, are justified. Once Anderson is defeated, 'The Stylebender' will be in line to fight for the middleweight belt.
Israel remains undefeated after 15 professional MMA fights. With four fights in Ultimate, he already occupies sixth place in the organization's middleweight rankings. In his last fight, the Nigerian knocked out Derek Brunson in the first round of UFC 230 in November last year.
