Ben Askren was hired by Ultimate in October 2018, when Ultimate and One Championship made the first change of fighters in the history of MMA. Since then, 'Funky' has been taunting almost every welterweight in the organization, but in January he focused his insults on Kamaru Usman. In recent days, Usman and Askren have been involved in a 'war of words' via their social media. However, the fighters met face to face backstage at the UFC 235 press conference.
During the press conference, Askren revealed that Usman had tried to attack him backstage. Kamaru disputed 'Funky's' accusation. Days after the event, a video was published revealing what really happened.
The video shows Usman approaching Askren backstage before Dana White and security intervened. Watch images of the conversation between the middleweights in the player below (courtesy Anatomy of a Fighter USA).

Conversation between the fighters
“Me and Marty sitting next to each other?” Askren asked White.
"You know me?" – Usman asked.
“Yes” – said Askren.
"How do you know me?" – Usman asked.
“I know you because we used to hang out. We used to hang out at the Olympic training center. ”- said Askren.
"Stay quiet. You do not know me. ” – Usman said.
“I offered to fight you. Not much more to be said there. ”- said Askren.
In December 2018, Askren offered to fight Usman for an interim welterweight title to save UFC 233. Kamaru was expected to fight Colby covington at the event, but the card was cancelled. Since then, 'Nigerian Nightmare' and 'Funky' have been exchanging barbs through their Twitter.
