Daniel Cormier He stated numerous times that he would hang up his gloves when he turned 40, on March 20th. However, it seems that the heavyweight champion is rethinking the matter. His coach, Javier Mendez revealed that 'DC' will postpone his retirement.

In an interview with the North American website BJPenn.com, the leader of the American Kickboxing Academy stated that it is unlikely that Cormier will fight again at light heavyweight and considers that the best opponent for the champion at the moment is Brock Lesnar.
“So many things have changed, the context, things that were not foreseen. Now, retirement will be extended. I don't know for sure, one fight, two, three, who knows. In the best case scenario he ('DC') faces the Brock Lesnar and hangs up the gloves. We'll see what happens, it's difficult to nail it. For me, he has already given up on the light heavyweight division, so I think he will fight Brock next”, said Mendez.
Cormier also has the alternative of having a rematch against Stipe Miocic or end the trilogy with Jon Jones. Even though he wants Daniel to continue in MMA, Javier plans for his other pupil, Cain Velazquez, regain the heavyweight belt after 'DC's retirement.
“For example, my goal is to get the title back to Cain after 'DC' vacates (the champion position) at the end of this year,” concluded the American Kickboxing Academy coach.
