Nick Diaz lied in medical questionnaire and could complicate defense

Preventively suspended for being caught in the UFC 143 anti-doping test, the welterweight Nick Diaz is awaiting a call from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to present its defense. However, a new fact could complicate the situation for the former Strikeforce champion.

In a medical questionnaire answered on the eve of the fight against Carlos Condit, Diaz reported that he had not used any medication in the two-week period before the fight. However, anti-doping confirmed that the athlete had consumed marijuana within a period of eight days before the event.

According to Diaz's defense, the fighter's use of marijuana is medicinal and approved by the California Athletic Commission – even the fighter's defense at the NSAC would be based on this fact. Therefore, he should have reported his consumption when filling out the Nevada Commission's medical questionnaire.

Nick Diaz announced his retirement shortly after the loss to Condit. Suspension by NSAC may reinforce the decision. Diaz is a repeat marijuana doping offender in Nevada. He had been caught in 2007, in an American edition of the now extinct PRIDE.
