Demian Maia confirms change of category

The black belt Demian Maia He's not having a good time in his career. After a promising start in the UFC, with five consecutive victories, the Brazilian, who lost two of the last three fights he entered the octagon, decided to change category. The fighter from São Paulo leaves the middleweight division (up to 84 kg.) and moves to welterweight (up to 77 kg.). The confirmation was made by the athlete himself through his Twitter account

"Now it's official. I will fight at 77 kg.”, wrote Demian on the microblog. “My next fight will be as a welterweight,” added the black belt.

With a professional record of 15 wins and four losses, Demian came to challenge for the UFC middleweight belt, but ended up dominated by his compatriot Anderson Silva, at UFC 112, in 2010, and lost the duel via unanimous decision by the judges. In his last fight, Maia was defeated by the American Chris Weidman at UFC on Fox 2, in January of this year.
