BJ Penn was submitted by Ryan Hall in the first round with a heel hook during UFC 232, last Saturday (29). With an 18-year career, the MMA legend had never been defeated by submission. The new setback caused the fighter to record his sixth consecutive defeat in Ultimate. Analyzing the former champion's retrospect, Ultimate president Dana White asked the 'Prodigy' to retire permanently after the new defeat.

“I would love to see BJ retire. BJ has nothing left to prove. I always say that fighting is a young man's game. Fighting is not for older men. BJ is a multiple world champion in multiple divisions and has nothing to prove. People love him, he’s a legend,” White said.

BJ Penn has won since 2010, when he surpassed Matt hugs by knockout at UFC 123. At 40 years old, he has lost six times in the last seven years. Seeking to reverse his bad phase, the MMA legend came to Brazil to hold his training camp together with coach Dedé Pederneiras on the 'Nova União' team.

“He went to Brazil to train hard for this thing. His camp partners had nothing but praise for him. He got caught in a submission tonight. BJ Penn is one of the legends of this sport and helped build this company”, concluded Dana.

Even with so many setbacks, Penn will continue in Ultimate until he retires, as he is one of the legends who built the name of the franchise. 'Prodigy' is one of the organization's fighters who won belts in two different weight categories: light and welterweight.
