Jon Jones is back! Considered by many to be the greatest fighter in history, the American left the controversies aside, showed that the time away from the Octagon didn't hurt and regained the UFC light heavyweight belt. This Saturday night (29), in the main fight of UFC 232, he defeated Alexander Gustafson, unquestionably knocking out the rival who had given him the most trouble in the Octagon.

“I want to thank everyone who stood by me. My team, my coaches, my family. I am a product of the great people I have around me. Alexander has a very long reach and connected good blows to my face. He's a guy who recovers very quickly. The plan was to use wrestling to beat him. He has a guy there who calls himself a double champion… What kind of guy gives up his belt just because I came home? Daddy's home, Cormier. Come get his belt, he’s right here,” Jones said while still in the cage.

The fight

The fight began surrounded by expectation. After the extremely even fight in 2013, Jones tried to start the rematch looking for the takedown, but the Swede defended well. The American worked with front stomps on Gustafssson's knee, who was rotating well in the octagon, but whenever he entered the range of action he was met with elbows.

In the second round, Gustafsson applied the tactic that balanced the first meeting between them. The Swede walked forward, combining punches and forcing Jon to retreat. The North American tried to respond with leg kicks, but without the same pressure.

With the fight getting tense, just like in the first duel, Jones decided to show all his worth. Without giving in to bad luck, as soon as the third round began, he attacked Gustafsson's legs and took the fight to the ground. On top, the North American showed all his superiority. He quickly passed the guard, trapped one of his rival's arms, reached his back and, with several punches to the side of the head, forced the referee to stop the fight and declare the knockout at 2:02.
