Fabricio Werdum was caught with the banned substance 'trenbolone' in an anti-doping test outside the competition period on April 25, 2018. The US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) punished the fighter with a two-year suspension. With the penalty, the gaucho will be able to return to fight in Ultimate in May 2020. With that in mind, the Brazilian's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, does not believe in the former champion's return to the organization's Octagon.

“I don’t think Fabrício will fight in the UFC again. I think he will continue fighting, but not in the UFC. Do you think USADA is legit? Fabrício will do what is best for him. He has a family, children and I love him unconditionally. I don't know what happened to him, but they screwed him over. I know he didn't cheat, but I'm his manager and I support him”, said Abdelaziz in an interview with the North American program MMA Junkie Radio.

With the suspension, Fabrício is experiencing a moment of doubt in his career. However, Ali claims that Werdum will continue fighting, but in events that are not regulated by USADA.

With six years in Ultimate, the gaucho won the heavyweight belt in June 2015, by beating Cain Velazquez by submission at UFC 180. Werdum has 32 fights in his career, with 23 wins, eight losses and one draw.
