Dana White claims he lost almost R$24 million with changes to UFC 232

The president took responsibility for keeping 'Bones' in the main fight of the event and revealed that Ultimate spent US$6 million moving from Las Vegas to Inglewood

Dana White took the MMA world by surprise when he announced the change of venue for UFC 232 after Jon Jones be caught in an anti-doping test. In less than a week the show left Las Vegas and went to Inglewood, California. During the press conference for the last event of the year, held on Thursday (27), Ultimate president Dana White took responsibility for keeping ‘Bones’ in the main fight.

Even though he was happy with the decision, Dana revealed that the organization had a loss of US$6 million (R$23,3 million at current prices) with the move of the entire event from the state of Nevada to California.

“We gave Vegas fans opportunities to buy earlier and cheaper, we did what we could to make them happy. But it is what it is, and I know it's costing everyone more. (…) We lost six million dollars (around R$23 million)”, said Dana.

The Ultimate commander was asked about the alternative of rescheduling the rematch between Jones and Alexander Gustafson on another date and keep the rest of the card in Las Vegas to avoid so much hassle. White directly assured that the duel between the light heavyweights should take place later this year, as it would be unfair if they were unable to fight after going through camp.

“Look, we could have had this fight in January, or postponed it to February or March. But he (Gustafsson) moved to Las Vegas for his camp, and they had a full camp. It wouldn’t be fair if they didn’t fight,” concluded White.

The main fight of UFC 232 will feature the reunion of Jones and Alexander Gustafson for the vacant light heavyweight belt. In the co-main event, the Brazilian champions, Amanda nunes e Chris Cyborg to stage the first female MMA superfight. The Paraná native puts the featherweight belt up for grabs against the Bahian.
