Cameras at the event recorded the moment of the attack, where Ralph appears punching Flávio Almeida during the Jiu-Jitsu event at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Ralph did not comment on the case, but Flávio's team, Gracie Barra, released a statement through their social networks.
“As you may know, while watching the World Cup without a kimono, Flávio was brutally attacked. It was completely by surprise, without provocation and without giving Flávio the chance to defend himself. It was with the full intention of hurting Flávio and intimidating Gracie Barra. Police are involved and investigating. Flávio's doctors told him to rest with his family and recover from his injuries, continuing work when he is ready. We appreciate your concern, we will provide more information when the time is right”, wrote Flávio’s brother, Ricardo Almeida.
According to Gracie Barra, the conflict between the two fighters is long-standing. Ralph would have warned Flávio not to open gyms in his 'area'.
