After victory at UFC Adelaide, Maurício Shogun admits: 'I still don't deserve the belt'

Even with four wins in five fights, the light heavyweight believes that there are fighters ahead of him for a title shot, but he says: 'One more fight and I'm ready'

Maurício 'Shogun' knocked out Tyson Peter at 43 seconds of the third round of the UFC Adelaide co-main event last Saturday (01). With the show in Australia, the Brazilian had four wins in five fights, won the 'Performance of the Night' award and should enter the top 10 of the light heavyweight rankings. Even so, Rua admitted that he is still not close to a title shot.

“I won four out of five, but I know I still don't deserve the belt. There are people ahead of me in the title line, and I would never want to get ahead of anyone. Unless the UFC wanted to, but I'll never say it's my turn because it's not. There are a lot of guys in front of me, Gustafsson and Jon Jones, who will fight for the belt”, said Shogun in an interview with UFC after the event in Australia.

Shogun assured that his focus is on fighting in his hometown, Curitiba in May 2019. “I think about winning each fight, my focus now is fighting in Curitiba, in May, in my hometown. That’s my focus”, said Rua.

Mauritius Shogun He has already been champion in Pride, UFC and is part of the organization's Hall of Fame. At 37 years old, the Brazilian occupies 13th place in the category ranking. In 16 years as a professional MMA fighter, Rua has 26 triumphs and 11 setbacks.
