Ricardo Lamas defeated Darren Elkin with a technical knockout at 4:09 of the third round of the UFC Buenos Aires co-main event. The fighters staged a frank and bloody fight on Saturday night (17) in Argentina. However, fans could not have imagined that 'Bully' was experiencing a health problem. On Wednesday (21) through his Instagram, the former featherweight title challenger revealed that he had struggled with a blood clot in his calf.

“On my first day in Argentina, I noticed that my left calf muscle was tight and painful to the touch. I thought maybe it was a little muscle pull or something of that nature, but as the week went on it got worse. On the day of the fight, I had someone work on him and try to get the muscle to loosen and it was extremely painful. After being examined by doctors and having an ultrasound done on the muscle, I discovered that I had formed a blood clot in my calf muscle during the flight to Argentina, from sitting in a cramped area for so long,” said Lamas.
Blood clots form as the blood hardens and can move around the body. Thus, they can cause complications such as: thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or ischemia.
“Things could have ended badly if the clot became dislodged during the fight. So I also have to thank whoever was watching me during the fight. So I think I can say that I fought with a blood clot”, concluded Ricardo.
With the victory in Argentina, Ricardo recovered from two defeats to Mirsad Bekti and Josh Emmett. The former featherweight title challenger has 26 fights with 19 victories and seven setbacks in his career.
