Canelo Álvarez signs record $365 million deal with DAZN

Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez beat Gennady Golovkin 'GGG' on points on September 16 in a rematch that was considered the fight of the year in world boxing. Thus, the boxer won world titles: from the World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the International Boxing Organization (IBO). With the great visibility, the fighter signed a record deal worth US$365 million (R$133,96 billion, at current prices) with the streaming service DAZN. The broadcast agreement for Álvarez's fights will last for five years and 10 fights. The contract will begin in the confrontation with Rocky Fielding, on December 15th at Madison Square Garden, in New York (USA).

The commitment is being called “the highest-paying contract in the history of the sport” by the president of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya who manages Canelo's career. Furthermore, with the agreement, Saúl Álvarez becomes the highest paid athlete in the world.

“That’s just from my hard work. The most important thing for me was being able to give the fans the opportunity to see me fight without having to pay the $70 or $80 for my fights on pay-per-view.
