After knocking out Stipe Miocic at UFC 226 and win the heavyweight belt, Daniel Cormier was challenged by Brock Lesnar. However, the WWE star will only be able to return to Ultimate in 2019. With that in mind, the organization brought forward 'DC's' return for the main fight of UFC 230, on November 3rd. The champion agreed to face Derrick Lewis in contention for the title a month in advance.

The heavyweight champion will only have 30 days of training to face Lewis. However, that doesn't seem to bother Cormier. In an interview with the North American channel ESPN, Daniel stated that he accepted the fight because in a short space of time he could put on a stronger training pace. This way, he guarantees that he will come out stronger than his opponent.

“There was no way to say no, honestly. Especially against a guy like Derrick who isn't known for the best physical conditioning. I have to start fast, I can set a stronger pace than him even with a short training camp”, explained DC.

Cormier plans to retire in March 2019, when he turns 40. However, the champion acknowledged that he could extend his period in the UFC for one more fight. The possible opponents are: Lesnar and his tormentor, Jon Jones.

“I could maybe prolong it, but now, I think I have this and one more. I can fight in March and settle my retirement. The opponent that interests me most is Jon Jones, because he beat me twice. Financially, Brock Lesnar it would mean more,” said Daniel.

In nine years in professional MMA, Cormier was Strikeforce champion and currently holds the light heavyweight and heavyweight belts. He has a record of 22 clashes, 20 victories and one setback and one fight without result. In his career, 10 times the North American ended the duel with a knockout victory.
