After four years at welterweight and problems with the weight cut, Darren till revealed that he will change categories. In his last duel, 'Gorilla' lost by submission to Tyron woodley in contention for the belt at UFC 228. Through a post published on Tuesday (02) on the North American website “PaddyPower.com”, the fighter stated that the confrontation against 'The Chosen One' was probably the last in the division up to 77kg. The Englishman will fight next at middleweight.

“I’m a big guy for welterweight, to be honest. So this will probably be my last fight at this weight. Welterweight is not completely ruled out for me, but I will be happy moving up to middleweight now, and I will be strong in this division without having to cut so much weight,” Till posted.

Currently, Till was among the best fighters in the welterweight division. However, the weight cut to reach 77kg was the athlete's biggest battle. The video showing Darren's weight loss for the fight against Stephen Thompson went viral on social media. The images show how the Englishman was prepared to step on the scale.

With the difficulty of reaching the weight of 77kg, Till became an attraction in itself during UFC 228. However, the fighter reached the limit of the division and confirmed the fight for the welterweight title.

“It’s not that I can’t make weight. I'm just a big guy and I have to be on a very strict and regimented diet, and to be honest, I don't like doing it. People might say 'he's not disciplined enough' but because I have to cut so much weight I can only eat minimal food and that's not how I want to train,” explained Darren.7

Darren till has been in the welterweight division since 2014. On two occasions, the Englishman had to fight at catchweight, as he was unable to reach his goal on the scale. The first time was against Jessin Ayari at UFC Stockholm in May 2017. The second occurrence was more recent against Stephen Thompson in May this year at UFC Liverpool. In both fights, Gorilla emerged victorious.
