Serginho Moraes submitted Ben Saunders with a triangle choke at 4:35 of the second round in the UFC Sao Paulo. With the triumph, the Brazilian proved his quality in the gentle art, where he is four-time world champion at black belt. Thus, the welterweight plans to face Demian Maia to prove that he has the best jiu-jitsu in the category.
“Who knows, it could be Demian that I fight? It would be an honor to fight with Demian and I know he will be successful. It would be interesting. It may be quite possible that I will fight Demian, but it depends on how my fights go. Much respect to Demian, but if the UFC thinks it's time, I'm ready and I hope Demian is too,” said Serginho.
Serginho had not finished an MMA fight since August 2013. On that occasion, the Brazilian won Neil Magny with a triangle at UFC 163. In his career, Moraes has 14 victories and on eight occasions he ended the duel with a submission.
With two consecutive victories in the organization, Serginho wants to face a fighter who is in the top 15 of the welterweight division.
“I hope to fight ranked guys. I'm not asking because I need it, but I deserve it. I've always kept quiet when I had fights I didn't like, but I've fought with the Neil Magny and I finished it five years ago. I only lost once, more than 10 fights in the UFC, I deserve to be among the best in the world. I'm one of the best in the world.”, stated the fighter.
Currently, Demian Maia occupy seventh place in the UFC welterweight rankings. The list is led by the division champion, Tyron woodley. Serginho does not appear in the Top 15 table in the category.
