The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) suspended the license of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Cristiane Justino Santos, better known in MMA circles as Chris Cyborg, and fined her $2.500 as a result of testing positive for a banned substance.

The Santos test, carried out on December 16, 2011, returned positive for stanozolol. CSAC received the test results on December 23 and suspended Santos' license retroactively to December 16, 2011. In accordance with Rule 368, the result of his last fight against Hiroko yamanaka will be changed to “No Decision”.

CSAC executive director George Dodd said “the commission’s primary interest is the health and safety of fighters.” He added: “Anabolic agents and other banned substances put not only the users of these agents at risk, but also their opponents. The commission simply will not tolerate the use.”
