The MMA referee must be prepared for anything, including entering into a duel with an athlete still in the fighting area. At the Crimea Rush event, held on the 29th, in Ukraine, mediator Armen Ananyan had to use a guillotine choke on Renat Lyatifov to contain the fighter, who had just been knocked out.

The confusion began when Croatian Karlo Caput took Lyatifov to the canvas in just 10 seconds of combat. After the duel ended, Renat went up to the referee and tried to knock him down, holding both of his legs. However, Ananyan landed a tight guillotine choke and submitted the fighter, who had already been knocked out seconds before (see image below).
Lyatifov's action is not unusual. Many times, the fighter who wakes up from a knockout has no memory of the setback and believes they are still in contention.
On the other hand, Ananyan's attitude is also not unprecedented in MMA. In 2014, Leon Roberts, a mediator with experience in the UFC, had to use a rear naked choke to submit athlete Nathius Frederick in a duel in the United Kingdom.
