McGregor's trainer says retirement will depend on 'opponents available'

Owen Roddy assured that at this stage of his career the Irishman is focused on the legacy he will leave to MMA

In 10 years of career, Conor McGregor He became one of the greatest fighters in UFC history after being the first athlete to win two belts (featherweight and lightweight) simultaneously. Furthermore, the Irishman made his fortune by having great fights in the octagon and also facing Floyd Mayweather in a boxing fight. After so many achievements, rumors of a possible retirement began to spread. In an interview with the “Eurobash” podcast, 'Notorious' trainer, Owen Roddy stated that the decision to suspend the fights will depend on the challenges offered by the organization.

“That’s what I always say to Conor: it depends on the fights that are available. If there's an upcoming superfight and he feels like he'd have fun doing it, he'll do it. If the fans want it, and things like that, Conor will accept it. The truth is, nobody knows what’s going to happen,” Roddy said.

McGregor's trainer believes the clash between the arch-rivals at UFC 229 in October will be the biggest fight of all time in MMA. “This fight, against Khabib Nurmagomedov, is potentially the biggest fight of all time. We’re going to face him and then he’s going to be in the next biggest fight of all time too,” Owen explained.

Roddy stated that Conor's mentality has not changed at any point. He made it clear that he was expressing only his opinion on the Irishman's future.

“I don’t know… I don’t think he’s going to retire. I can't predict the future to know what will happen, but I can say that Conor's mentality is the same as always. It hasn’t changed at all,” he concluded.

Conor McGregor has an MMA record of 21 wins and just three losses. The Irishman will have his next fight at UFC 229, on October 6th, when he faces the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov, for the lightweight belt.
