Thinking about the possible cancellation of the welterweight title fight between the champion Tyron woodley and Daren Till due to injuries or weight-cutting problems, Ultimate has already left one of the fighters in the category on standby. The man chosen to be the 'reserve' for the UFC 228 match on September 8th in Texas is Kamaru Usman.

The 'Nigerian Nightmare' posted the booking confirmation on Twitter. “Just a deep feeling in my soul, September 08th I will be the new Welterweight Champion of the world!!!”, said the sixth placed in the division ranking.
Shortly after Usman's tweet, ESPN journalist Brett Okamoto validated the Nigerian's words. “Usman will indeed undergo medical examinations and weigh-ins in case something happens to Woodley or Till before UFC 228 in Dallas,” he acknowledged.
Per his management, Usman will in fact submit medicals and weigh-in during fight week, in the event something happens to Woodley or Till before UFC 228 in Dallas. https://t.co/ON1tWzf7l1

The procedure of leaving a fighter waiting is no longer new for the organization. During UFC 226 during International Fight Week in early July Alexander Volkov remained on the 'bench', waiting for a setback in the superfight between Daniel Cormier e Stipe Miocic. The night before during the TUF 27 Finale, Thiago Santos was a substitute for the fight between Israel adesanya e Brad Tavares.
