In the first meeting between Justin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez, the fight ended without result after an illegal strike by the former lightweight champion. A new appointment was scheduled for UFC Calgary, in Canada, on Saturday (28). ‘Diamond’ showed his superiority and beat ‘Underground King’ by technical knockout in the second round. With a convincing victory, Glenn declared that he deserves a shot at the title.

Poirier comes from four consecutive victories, two knockouts, one submission and one by judge's decision. Looking back, the fighter guarantees that he is in line to face the lightweight champion. He admits he will have to wait for the winner of the clash between the arch-rivals Conor McGregor e Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“I'm at the top, in the best shape I've ever been in and I want to keep growing. I want the title shot, I'm next, I think I've achieved this, I've paid for my sins every year in this selfish game, but who knows what will happen? It depends on when this fight (Conor x Khabib) happens,” he declared.

Justin recognized Alvarez as one of the best lightweights in professional MMA history. He also talked about the difficulties he had during the camp for the main fight at UFC Calgary.

“It was another very long camp, I started injured. Leaving the fight with the Justin gaethje I had a quadriceps injury and ended up putting on a little weight between fights because I couldn't run. I run a lot, but I couldn't run for about six weeks. My leg was really injured, I went to the gym and tried to do what I could, so this weight cut was very difficult. But, you know, I feel amazing. I knew I had the potential to be the best in the world, I don't look for shortcuts, I learn from my mistakes and my success. I gave my all to this. I feel good about coming here, I beat one of the best lightweights in history”, he revealed.

The knockout artist guaranteed that he is capable of beating any opponent on the ground. “In camp I was doing the guillotine very well. It's something I never pursue because I know it's more difficult, but I felt like I improved my jiu-jitsu a lot and ended up landing a lot of guillotines. People underestimate my wrestling, but I can go to the ground and beat anyone. I'm not afraid of losing position. I have impressive physical fitness, people don’t know that,” he concluded.
