“This time I'm going to knee him in the face, but standing up, for sure. I felt like I was on the way to winning, but I recognize that I got the knee, I was to blame. I think the fight should have continued, he was conscious enough, with a clear head, for the fight to continue. He tried to game the system a little to get the money for the win and it didn't work. We now have the chance to do it again,” said Alvarez.

Alvarez believes that the winner of the fight deserves to be the next challenger for the lightweight belt he currently holds. Khabib Nurmagomedov. Even so, he admits that Conor McGregor can get ahead and ruin plans in the division.

“There is no doubt, the winner of our fight has to be the next person to fight for the title. To bring some legitimacy to this division, and to clear things up, I think I would have to be the winner of my fight with Dustin. No one else is facing top fighters or the most dangerous guys in the division, just us. But I think McGregor will come back”, explained Eddie.

Eddie Alvarez's contract with Ultimate is coming to an end, his fight against Poirier is the last under the current agreement. The former champion is already talking to the organization about renewing his contract. “I spoke to the UFC and we are still talking, there is no problem, we just haven't reached an agreement. They have what they think is fair, I have what I think is fair. Eventually we will reach an agreement, but now it's time to fight. We are disagreeing, but we will reach a positive agreement,” he said.
