Fedor Emelianenko and Chael Sonnen will face each other in October in the semi-finals

The Gran Prix semifinals for the vacant Bellator heavyweight title are scheduled for October. The two fights are between: Fedor Emelianenko e Chael Sonnen; Matt Mitrione and Ryan bader. There are possibilities that the two confrontations will occur in the same event.

“We’re trying to keep it very close. I want the two semifinals to happen together,” Bellator president Scott Coker told the “MMAjunkie” website.

Former Pride champion Emelianenko advanced to the final four in April when he won Frank mir at 48 seconds of R1 at Bellator 198. His opponent, Chael Sonnen won his spot when he won by unanimous decision, Quinton Rampage Jackson at Bellator 192 in January.

Even though California has been mentioned as a likely location for the fight, Chicago could be one of the potential host cities for Emelianenko and Sonnen to face off.

On the other side of the bracket, Bader continues his quest to become the first two-division champion in Bellator history. The American is the current light heavyweight champion, and beat Muhammed Lawal in 15 seconds at Bellator 199 in May. His opponent, Mitrione, who he defeated Roy Nelson via unanimous decision at Bellator 194 in February to advance in the tournament.

Official dates and locations should be announced in the coming weeks.
