Making the women's strawweight division (52,6kg) has been a problem for Mackenzie dern. During UFC Rio in May this year, the fighter was 3,2kg above the category limit. In an interview with the website Combate.com, the North American assured that she will remain in the division.

“After I didn't make weight, the UFC called me. They said they were thinking about changing me, they asked me to go to the Performance Institute in Las Vegas to see what my body type was like, if it was better to stay at strawweight or move up to flyweight,” said Dern.

Mackenzie explained that she doesn't have the body for a strawweight athlete, but she will maintain her diet and training so she can continue in the category. “Everyone here agrees that I have a body type that fits at strawweight, in the category I am, so the plan is to stay there.
