Vic Darchinyan is another boxing champion who is thinking about moving to MMA

Armenian says he is negotiating with American teams and wants to fight in the UFC

First it was Ricardo Mayorga, who had his plans to fight MMA frustrated by businessman Don King in 2010. Then it was James Toney, defeated in the same year by Randy Couture at UFC 118. Now another former world boxing champion is talking about migrating to the fastest growing sport in the world.

The Armenian living in Australia Vic Darchinian, four times world champion by the most important boxing entities, in two different categories, wants to follow in Toney's footsteps. In an interview with the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph, the current International Boxing Organization bantamweight world champion confirmed the rumors:

“This could honestly happen within a year, who knows? I already have a strong foundation of wrestling and I’m confident I could make the transition.”

Darchinyan, 35 years old and with 41 fights as a professional boxer, also confirmed that he and his managers are negotiating with some American MMA teams, including Lion's Den, owned by UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock.

Until then, the Armenian has work to do in boxing. This Saturday he faces Panamanian Anselmo Moreno, world bantamweight champion by the World Boxing Association, one of the three most important entities in world boxing.
