Charles of the Bronx had all the factors against his victory: replacing Boby Green with just 12 days of preparation and the fans in favor of Clay guida, originally from Chicago. However, the Brazilian went at it and didn't let the North American breathe.
Clay guida was surprised by Charles of the Bronx, from the first moment of the fight, the Brazilian worked with good low kicks that hindered the North American's movement. The moment that defined the dispute were good combinations of punches applied by Charles. Guida felt it and attempted the takedown. With Clay's carelessness, however, from the Bronx, he landed a fair guillotine choke to finish 2m18s into the contest.
With the finish the Brazilian equalizes Royce gracie in the number of submission victories in UFC history. There were 10 athletes who gave the three taps of withdrawal in front of Charles. The victory takes the Brazilian to 23 victories in his MMA career, which has 32 fights.
Still in the octagon, Charles of the Bronx asked for a next fight in the featherweight category for the UFC Sao Paulo on September 22, 2018. “I want to return to my category and fight at home. The favela will come down to see me in the octagon”, said the Brazilian.
Claudia Gadelha dominates Carla Esparza and wins by decision
Claudia Gadelha e Carla esparza made the fight that involves one of the biggest rivalries between female bantamweights. The clash was scheduled twice at Invicta FC, but ended up not taking place because the Brazilian was injured and the duel was cancelled. This night, however, Chicago was the stage for the great “titans” of the women’s paso straw to face off.
From the first round the fight was very tough, with hard-hitting blows and the Brazilian trying to take the fight to the ground to apply her jiu-jitsu. Esparza showed that she has grown a lot in the sport since her last fight Cynthia calvillo.
In the first round, Esparza managed to land a cross that left the brazilian unresponsive. At the end of the first half, Claudinha managed to land a guillotine choke, but Carla was saved by the bell.
The second round begins with the North American attacking with more forceful blows. Carla believes in victory and puts Claudia against the fence and launches strong attacks. The Brazilian manages to put the fight on the ground, but Esparza manages to get up. At the end of the round, Esparza manages to finish the fight on top of the Brazilian.
Gadelha starts the third round showing fatigue and Esparza attacks looking for the victory. The North American shows that she found the 'formula' to beat Claudinha: attack and leave. So, she maintained most of the fight, but tried to land a kick. With the blow, Claudia is able to hold her opponent's leg, pull her to the ground and apply blows. Carla manages to get the fight back on its feet, knocks the Brazilian down and applies ground and pound.
The Brazilian fighter won by split decision from the judges (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). Still in the Octagon, after booing his opponent, Claudia gadelha he stated: “this is a great champion and don’t boo her. She did a lot for the (strawweight) division. Win or lose, I always put on a show for you.”
