Sonnen fought a historic battle against Anderson Silva at UFC 117, in August 2010, when he dominated the duel for four rounds, but ended up finishing with just over a minute left in the duel. After that, he suffered from doping problems and justice in his country, being away from the Octagon for more than a year. Even so, Sonnen didn't stop provoking Anderson and promoting a long-awaited rematch. Upon his return, which took place in October 2011, Chael took no notice of Brian Stann and finished the fight in the second round. After the triumph, the American again provoked Anderson and even scheduled a date for the confrontation, something that ended up not happening.

In turn, Munoz, who has a record of 12 wins and just two losses, is experiencing the best moment of his career. The fighter of Filipino ancestry comes from four consecutive victories, the last being over Chris Leben in the main fight of UFC 138, held in October this year.
