The Case

Fabricio Werdum, 40 years old, was caught undergoing a drug test on April 25, by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). The UFC received the information on Tuesday (22) and announced the fighter's departure from the UFC in Russia, which will take place on September 15.
The Brazilian was scheduled to face Aleksey Oleynik in the main fight of the event. USADA will provide further clarification soon.
“USADA, which independently administers the UFC's anti-doping policy, will manage the results and appropriate awards of this case involving Werdum. In accordance with UFC anti-doping policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is provided to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time throughout the process,” USADA said in a statement.
On Wednesday (23), Werdum took to Instagram to speak out and promises to 'clarify misunderstandings' regarding the anti-doping test. According to the fighter, he was taken by surprise with the positive result.
“I was taken by surprise by the news that one of the tests taken by USADA in April was positive for a banned substance. I made myself available to USADA and the UFC and I am working with my team to understand what happened. I have always been very careful with everything I take and have always supported clean sport. You can be sure that we will clear up this misunderstanding and I hope to soon be able to get back to doing what I love, which is fighting”, said the Brazilian.
