Eddie Alvarez has not been to the Octagon since December 2017. In his last fight, the American knocked out Justin gaethje at UFC 218 and his contract with the event was close to ending. With just one more fight on the deal, the former lightweight champion guarantees that he will not fight until a new deal is made.

“There’s no way it’s going to happen (accepting a fight). I'm not going to fight until I get a new contract. The only thing we talked about was that we would renew, but we haven't reached an agreement yet. So, I don't think there will be an opponent or an offer until the renewal. So, when we reach an agreement, I'm sure there will be a fight offer in the email. I want to sit down with the UFC and reach an agreement. I think the best guys are in the UFC. There are still some that I want to face and have on my resume. I still have unfinished business. The UFC needs to stop playing games, they know what I mean”, said Eddie in an interview with the MMA Fighting website.
