Video: Luan Chagas loses to Afghan and gets complicated in UFC

Brazilian promise did not take advantage of the opportunity to submit in the first round and suffered from Siyar Bahadurzada's striking in the second round

Considered one of Brazil's biggest prospects at welterweight (up to 77,1 kg), Luan Chagas had a night to forget at UFC Fight Night Atlantic City, an event that took place this Saturday (21), in New Jersey (USA) . Acting on the attraction's preliminary card, the fighter from Mato Grosso faced Afghan Siyar Bahadurzada and ended up being knocked out in the second round. The result marked the Brazilian's second defeat in Ultimate in four appearances – he also has a win and a draw. On the other hand, 'The Great' scores his third consecutive triumph and is in line to enter the top-10 of the category.

The fight

The fight began with Siyar Bahadurzada taking the initiative in the dispute. The Afghan threw punches and kicks, while Luan responded to the attacks with telegraphed blows. In one of these attacks, the Brazilian tried to kick his rival's waistline and Siyar took advantage of the chance. He held the Mato Grosso native's leg and took the fight to the ground. From above, Bahadurzada struck from above. But Luan showed why he is a jiu-jitsu black belt. He took advantage of his opponent's first opening to reverse the position and reach his back. With more than two minutes on the clock, Chagas tried his best to secure the choke, but the Afghan managed to defend himself until the end of the period.

In the second round, after suffering in the ground fight, Bahadurzada came back ready to keep the fight standing. He worked with right punches that hit Luan squarely in the face. The pace meant that the Brazilian was unable to get closer to attack. The Afghan's fighting volume increased with kick combinations, which further pushed the Mato Grosso native further away. In one of these attacks, Siyar fired a front kick that hit Luan Chagas' waistline. The Brazilian immediately felt the blow, bent his knee and went to the ground. The Afghan even threw one more punch at the Brazilian athlete before the referee interrupted the dispute and declared a technical knockout.

Controversy on the preliminary card
