Known for its extravagant style, Conor McGregor will spend the early hours of this Friday (07) in a very uncomfortable place compared to the fighter's high standard of living. The Irishman handed himself in to the New York Police after causing a huge disturbance at UFC 223 Media Day. The news of his arrest was released by the North American TV channel NBC and confirmed by George Tsourovakas, police spokesman.

“He (McGregor) turned himself in and the investigation is ongoing,” Tsourovakas said. Despite the arrest, there is still no formal charge from the State of New York against McGregor, but it appears that the UFC champion is likely to be charged with assault.

The confusion began last Wednesday when Khabib Nurmagomedov, who will be in the main fight of UFC 223, caught McGregor's friend, Artem Lobov, at the hotel where the athletes are staying. The Irishman did not like the Russian's attitude and accompanied by 10 partners, including Lobov, invaded the Barclays Center, where the UFC 223 Media Day would be held. Looking for Khabib, McGregor and his associates threw several targets at the van carrying the athletes (see video below). In the confusion, Michael chiesa and Ray Borg, who would fight at UFC 223 and were in the vehicle, were injured and removed from the show.

Immediately, the New York Police issued an arrest warrant for McGregor, who surrendered to authorities in the early hours of Friday (06). The fighter must spend the night at the police station until a bond is set by the State of NY.
