The battle was long, but Josh Barnett managed to prove his innocence to the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). In December 2016, the former UFC champion tested positive for the banned substance ostarine. But after a long legal battle, the fighter proved that the change in the test was due to a contaminated supplement and he is free to compete again.

The acquittal was confirmed by USADA, the entity responsible for UFC doping control, through an official statement.

“Due to the source (of the substance) being a contaminated supplement, and the athlete being careful about the products he consumed, the judge determined that only a public reprimand was appropriate,” said the excerpt from the statement.

Despite the acquittal, Josh Barnett was inactive for a long time until trial. The 38-year-old fighter has not performed since September 2016, when he submitted the Belarusian Andrei Arlovski.
