St. Pierre's trainer says he would prefer to see him move down to lightweight

There is a lot of speculation about a possible superfight involving the two best fighters in the world pound-for-pound today: the UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva against the welterweight belt holder, Georges St Pierre.

Probably tired of answering this subject, Firas Zahabi, the Canadian's coach, decided to give an unprecedented answer. In an interview with the American website Sherdog, Zahabi said that he prefers to see his pupil move down to the lightweight category (up to 70 kg.) instead of moving up to the middleweight category (up to 84 kg.).

“Georges is not a very big welterweight, (…) he weighs 77kg (weight limit for the welterweight category) very easily. If we don’t have any member of our team as a lightweight champion, I would recommend that they drop weight before moving up,” explained the coach.

PUBLICITY:

Currently the biggest problem for this change is the agreement that Tri Star Gym, Zahabi and GSP's team, has with Renzo Gracie. Georges St Pierre trains at the Brazilian's gym in New York. Frankie Edgar, current UFC lightweight champion, is one of the members of Renzo's team, which would make a clash between the champions worth the belt in the under-70kg division unfeasible.
