Fabricio Werdum is back. The Brazilian takes action this Saturday (17) against Alexander Volkov, in the main event of UFC Fight Night London. But before his commitment against the Russian was confirmed, the Brazilian was close to getting a rematch with Stipe Miocic, current heavyweight champion and who took the title from Rio Grande do Sul at UFC 198, in May 2016, in Curitiba. In an interview with Canal Encarada, Werdum revealed that Ultimate's idea was to promote Miocic x Werdum 2 on The Ultimate Fighter 27 (TUF 27), the organization's reality show, but the event changed its mind due to the popular appeal of a superfight between Miocic It is Daniel Cormier conquered.

“This fight really caught attention. I think I already deserved the rematch, but it's up to the public to decide. The public liked this idea and I even told Dana White that I want to see this fight, it will be very interesting. I didn't think it was unfair, but it was practically certain that I was going to do The Ultimate Fighter with Stipe Miocic. That's what they're doing now. Do what? We have to think about business, there is no such thing as feelings. My time will come and when I have the opportunity I will make the most of it. Having the opportunity in 2018, I am already the champion again. It was 'triggered' (TUF with Miocic). I didn't have anything signed, but I was already getting ready to sign it. But then there was this Cormier superfight thing and it really caught our attention”, explained the former heavyweight champion.

Regarding the duel between Miocic and Cormier, which takes place on July 7th, the Brazilian is betting on the current champion's triumph.

“Anything can happen in a fight, but I believe Miocic wins this one on points or by beating so much that the referee will have to stop the fight (technical knockout). I don't see Cormier beating Miocic by knockout. I don’t see that happening,” he assessed.
